Returned: sent back for different possible reasons
A returned product was sent back after an earlier purchase. It may not have suited the buyer, its packaging may have been opened or it may have a defect. Returned does not automatically mean unused, complete or working. Ask for information about this particular item.
Refurbished: checking and repair where needed
Refurbished is used for products that have been checked and restored where needed. The parts checked or replaced can differ by seller. Ask about that work. A neat appearance or new packaging alone does not prove an item has been refurbished.
Second-hand: previously used
A second-hand product has been used before. It may work well, but prior use says nothing about later checks or repairs. Returned and second-hand can overlap when a returned item has signs of use.
Untested: an important question remains open
Untested means functionality has not been established. This differs from working and from confirmed defective. Ask what information is known. At FLIP, items from return lots can have different conditions. Check the label and the explanation for each product.
The same words, a different sales process
Bol describes its own Retourdeals as returned items with packaging damage that have been checked. This describes bol’s sales process. It cannot automatically be applied to every return lot or an item at another store. The seller’s information about the specific product remains important.
Good to know
What should I ask before buying?
Ask whether the product has been tested, which defects are known, what is included and what information is recorded with the purchase. Compare the exact model with what you need.
